She Boujee UK – God, Fashion & Business
Sometimes the most challenging thing we can do is have the courage to take a leap and follow our dreams.
With a deep passion for giving back to the community and a love for fashion and unique clothing accessories, Martha Mondewa decided to create She Boujee UK. This brand strives to complement the inner greatness all women possess. Here we speak with the entrepreneur to find out about her inspirations to start her business, challenges she has overcome, favourite influencers and why she puts God at the centre of all she does.
Can you tell us about your brand @sheboujeeuk?
The definition of Boujee here at She Boujee UK means luxurious in lifestyle yet humble in character. She Boujee was established with the wonderful women of this world in mind and at heart. Whether you’re a 9-5 working woman, entrepreneur, stay-at-home working mum, student, life lover, free spirit, or an advocate for ALL women’s rights, She Boujee strives to represent and appreciate you.
What inspired you to start your business?
I have a mission to make every woman feel and look even more Boujee than she already is! With beauty trends consistently changing, I believe it is vital that all women (and people) don’t forget that their beauty comes from within. You make the clothes look good, not the other way around, and you set the trend. This is why I am always open to hearing suggestions from customers who express their needs for various things, including larger sizes, unique accessories, custom designs etc.
I also started my business because I want to give back to others. People who shop at She Boujee UK make a positive difference in someone else’s life. She Boujee will donate a percentage of our intake to charities that help support people from around the world by providing them with the necessary tools, environment, education, and healthcare systems they need to progress in life. By starting this business, I can help people who, in turn, help other people. It’s beautiful.
As a new entrepreneur, what challenges have been most difficult to overcome?
The biggest challenge I have faced so far is managing several things at once i.e. marketing, website designing, product research, etc. However, I have been blessed to slowly but surely find myself with a team of people I can trust to help me complete some of the tasks I may not be able to do alone. Another challenge I faced, in the beginning was funding. I paid for everything out of my 9-5 salary, so I had to be smart with my outgoing expenditures for the business. I learned to budget effectively through trial and error.
Are there any influencers you’d like to collaborate with?
YES! I would love to collaborate with Nella Rose, someone I admire due to her tenacity, strong work ethic, and lit personality. She is antithetically and confidently herself, which is what She Boujee is all about! Another influencer I would love to collaborate with is Stacey Solomon. I think she is a fantastic mother, and it has been inspiring to watch her journey throughout the years. She is a Boujee mum, for sure!
Who is your favourite female Mogul, and why?
My favourite female Mogul would have to be Kandi Burruss because she does it ALL. She is an artist, entrepreneur, mother, creative, director, actress, food lover, charity giver, and I’m sure the list goes on. I admire her ability to turn any situation into a success, which is the quality one needs to have if they wish to be successful. I don’t want to be like anyone else. However, I believe others can positively influence us to better ourselves further. Seeing Kandi in action reminds me that you can do everything you love in this life if you stay consistent and adapt your perception depending on the situations life presents you with.
How do you plan to expand your business over the next year?
I plan to expand She Boujee UK by developing the brand’s global audience, finding new and innovative inspiration for products, and launching new and unique products that cater to everyone, not just women, so keep your eyes peeled, fellas!
What three habits have contributed to your success?
In simple words, Faith, Prayer, and Action. If you do something, you must have faith that it will work; otherwise, what’s the point? Additionally, you can’t expect good things to happen to you just because you pray or have faith, part of having faith is putting it into physical action…the two go together.
What’s your favourite aspect of being an entrepreneur?
My favourite aspect of being an entrepreneur would be having the freedom to create something true to me, my morals, and my beliefs and having the platform to include others along this journey. I always aim to work with raw talent, photographers, artists, and stylists. I like to work with people working hard to make their dreams and goals come true.
Being a God-loving young lady, what words of advice would you share with aspiring entrepreneurs?
I would not have been able to do any of this without God. When starting a business, it is important to humble yourself, remind yourself why you’re creating this, what your end goal is, and how you might be able to help others along the way. Remember that delay does not mean denial, and the Most High’s plan for your life is far greater than your own.
