This month our business interview is with the lovely CEO of Buttagrow Haircare Kisann Richardson. The female entrepreneur shares how she was inspired to start her all-natural haircare business, social media challenges she’s had to overcome, and advice for aspiring entrepreneurs wanting to start a haircare business.
What inspired you to create Butta Grow Haircare?
My kids inspired me, my youngest daughter’s hair wasn’t growing as fast as expected. As a family we decided to create our own homemade hair products with organic, natural ingredients.
Can you share the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome since starting your business?
My biggest challenge honestly was social media. I was never really that much into social media. I barely posted anything, so starting my company and learning that social media plays such a huge roll in the marketing of just about anything. It was a challenge. I’m still working on it but I’ve gotten so much better.
3. If you could collaborate with a celebrity to promote your brand who would it be and why?
Rihanna – somehow I feel we can relate to each other, both from the Caribbean (small islands) trying to make it, besides that she has a great influence on a lot of young people. The way she promotes her brand is so AMAZING, that’s the way I want to have ButtaGrow Hair Care pretty soon.
4. To date, what achievement are you most proud of?
My proudest moment happened a few days ago, I had a sale for my birthday on May 19th 2020 and I had over 30+ orders… to some that’s a little bit but to me it was A LOT and a blessing. I’m so proud of myself.
5. Do you believe there are advantages to being a female entrepreneur?
I honestly feel like sometimes it depends on the industry you’re in.
6. Can you tell us more about the woman behind the brand?
My name is Kisann Richardson, I’m from the beautiful island called St. Maarten. I moved to Orlando, Fl in July 2016. I’m married to an amazing man and we have 2 beautiful girls. I’m just an island girl trying to make my dreams a reality.
7. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to READ!… I’m either reading or spending time with my family when I have some spare time. it’s limited right now but I still try.
8. What advice would you give to young
entrepreneurs who want to get into the hair products business?
The Hair Care industry is in the top five of the fastest-growing companies in the industry. I would say make a plan, stick to it, and make your products STAND OUT.
9. What can we expect from you over the next year?
We have some new products dropping really soon. We would love to be on some shelves pretty soon. But everything takes time and we are trusting the process.
