MMG Regional Awards 2019

On Saturday 19th October 2019 the 4th annual MMG Regional Awards took place at the Bristol Grande Mercure hotel.

The event was hosted by presenter, entrepreneur and activist Sister Jendayi Serwah. Jendayi is a natural on the stage, she opened with a warm welcome that set the tone for the evening. Her charming wit had the audience cheerful and laughing as she started to announce the nominees and winners.  Throughout the night she was joined on stage by Fiona Mcinnes-Craig, Stephe Le Fanu, Scotty Rakes Ryan, Halina Jaroszewska, and Akilah Walton.

Kicking off the entertainment was young rising star Chel followed by Bristol’s Booty Bass founder and popular DJ – DJ Ngaoi. DJ Ngaoi performed her single Black Bird while Chel sang a few uptempo tracks that got the crowd dancing.

After the performance interval, the rest of the award winners were announced. This segment covered the popular and controversial music categories. The South West waits to see with anticipation which artist will take home the award. Each year the number of votes grows, making the competition closer than ever. It’s always hard to predict who will win.

The music categories were followed with a live performance by Bristol’s wordsmith and lyrical genius Wish Master.

After his performance, a special MMG Honours was presented to another maverick in the music scene Jay 0117. The Grime MC was honoured for his work and contribution to music in the city.

Sister Jendayi readout:

“The next individual is a pioneer & have dedicated their career to put Bristol on the map. His energy, music and work ethic is unmatched. Creative, lyrical and with a plethora of visuals under his belt, he can go toe to toe with the best grime artists in Europe. He has graced many stages across the country and lyrically went to war on prominent platforms such as Redbull’s Grime Clash, Lord Of The Mic and more.

We recognise your hard work, we honour what you have done and support what you continue to do.

You cannot mention bristol without mentioning 0117!!! Please, can we give a standing ovation to Bristol’s Grime connoisseur Jay 0117.”

To close off the event there was a live performance by London Rapper Nolay. Nolay is fierce with the wordplay and can lyrically battle most men in the game with ease. Her uptempo and energetic performance had the crowd on their feet as she entertained us and closed off the show.
