The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards took place on the August 26, from New Jersey’s Prudential Center. Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande are tied this year for the title of most-nominated artists; they got 10 nominations each. Billie Eilish pursues with 9 nominations; Lil Nas X got 8.
At the ceremony, Taylor Swift performed “Lover” for the first-time. The acoustic performance was followed up with the sensation singing “You Need to Calm Down” to open the show. Taylor was joined on stage by a huge team of dancers and her show creatively incorporated fireworks, Pride inspired rainbows, and holographic words “equality act.” This was Taylors first televised performance since the release of her new album Lover.
Our new favourite Lizzo performed “Truth Hurts” and “Good As Hell” in front of a giant booty balloon. Lil Nas X performed his international hit song “Old Town Road” followed by his latest release “Panini.”

Megan Thee Stallion opened the pre-show performing “Big Ole Freak” along with “Hot Girl Summer” and “Money Shit.” Rosalía performed her hit with Ozuna, “Yo x Ti, Tu x Me,” and “Aute Cuture.”
Missy Elliott got the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and gave an epic performance, that incorporated her new tune “Throw It Back.”
Missy Elliott gave probably the most epic and exciting performance of the night. Literally, everyone in the crowds was up on their feet dancing as she took us on a mesmerising trip down memory lane. Her songs are classics and bring all cultures together through our love of her music.
Miley Cyrus sang her new single “Slide Away” supported by a string segment. The legendary Lenny Kravitz introduced H.E.R. who was amazing. Normani, lit up the stage while performing her nostalgic “Motivation.”
We were also blessed with performances from Big Sean and A$AP Ferg who performed “Bezerk,” which they released a few hours before the show. Bad Bunny and J Balvin played out their Oasis hit “Que Pretendes” rocking colourful ensembles accompanied by a twerking inflatable dinosaur….yes you read it right…a twerking dinosaur.
