You’ve had the idea for months now. Maybe longer. You’ve thought about it in the shower. You’ve written notes in your phone at 11pm. You’ve looked at other people doing something similar and thought — I could do that. I could do that well.

But you haven’t started.

Not because you’re lazy. Not because you’re afraid. But because somewhere deep inside, you’re waiting. Waiting for someone to turn to you and say — yes. You’re ready. You can go now.

And you already know nobody’s coming to say that. You already know this. But knowing it and feeling it are two different things.

So you wait a little longer. You do another course. You read another book. You save another post that says “just start.” You tell yourself you need more experience, more savings, more clarity, more time. And every single one of those things feels reasonable. Because they are. Preparation is smart. Planning is wise. You’re not procrastinating — you’re being responsible.

But here’s what’s actually happening.

You’re not preparing. You’re protecting yourself. Because if you never start, you can never fail. And if you never fail, you never have to face the possibility that the thing you want most might not work. The dream stays safe as long as it stays a dream.

And you’re not wrong for feeling that way. Every person who has ever built something from nothing has stood exactly where you’re standing. Pen in hand. Plan in place. Heart in throat.

Here’s the truth nobody says out loud: permission was never going to come from outside you. The promotion you’ve been waiting for. The mentor who finally believes in you. The moment when you feel qualified enough. None of it was ever going to be the signal. Because the signal was always yours to give.

The permission you’ve been looking for is not a gift from someone else. It’s a decision you make about yourself.

You don’t need anyone to tell you you’re ready. You need to decide you’re going.
