Fun Facts About Bristol"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><em>By M.Johnson<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Bristol is well known for its deep-rooted yet colourful history, it\u2019s ever-expanding culture, creative arts &amp; music. Known for churning out many successful international artists and musicians such as Banksy, Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead and Smith &amp; Mighty to name a few.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Bristol is also making headway in various technology industries particularly in Robotics. In May 2012 we saw the opening of the new Bristol Robotics Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Minister for Universities and Science David Willetts said: \u201cRobotics has a whole host of everyday applications, from helping our aging population to improving manufacturing processes. Bristol Robotics Laboratory will bring together the best expertise from industry and the academic community to spearhead Britain\u2019s efforts to be world-leading in this fascinating and exciting area of science.\u201d We are happy to say since its grande opening the BRL, along with various other tech companies in Bristol greatly contributed to our city being a world leader in the innovative technology industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">It\u2019s safe to say that Bristol is a bubble of creative expression that continuously influences the influencers. With that being the case, here are a few other products and inventions that were created and developed right here in our great city of Bristol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Everyone\u2019s favourite cold beverage Ribena. Yes, that\u2019s right Ribena was developed at the Long Ashton Agriculture and Horticulture Research Station in North Somerset using a pectinase enzyme process; and invented there by Vernon Charley, a scientist at the University of Bristol in 1933.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Cinematography &#8211; William Friese Green was a prolific inventor and key figure in early cinematography. Born in Bristol on 7th September 1855, William became a well respected English portrait photographer and is principally known as a pioneer, creating motion pictures and developing processes and techniques that helped to guide and pave the way for film-makers following in his footsteps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Flying High &#8211; Our beloved Concorde. I\u2019m sure most of you reading this already know that the famous metal bird Concorde was built in Bristol UK. The construction of two Concorde prototypes began in February 1965: 001, built by A\u00e9rospatiale at Toulouse France, and 002, by BAC at Filton, Bristol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">With a maximum speed over twice the speed of sound, it truly was a remarkable piece of technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">It is time to spread your wings, face your fears and fly higher than ever before. Don\u2019t limit your potential by thinking that the Sky Is The Limit if there are footprints on the moon.
