The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards took place on the August 26, from New Jersey\u2019s Prudential Center. Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande are tied this year for the title of most-nominated artists; they got 10 nominations each. Billie Eilish<\/a> pursues with 9 nominations; Lil Nas X got 8.<\/p>\n At the ceremony, Taylor Swift performed \u201cLover\u201d for the first-time. The acoustic performance was followed up with the sensation singing \u201cYou Need to Calm Down\u201d to open the show. Taylor was joined on stage by a huge team of dancers and her show creatively incorporated fireworks, Pride inspired rainbows, and holographic words \u201cequality act.\u201d This was Taylors first televised performance since the release of her new album Lover.<\/p>\n Our new favourite Lizzo performed \u201cTruth Hurts\u201d<\/a> and \u201cGood As Hell\u201d in front of a giant booty balloon. Lil Nas X performed his international hit song \u201cOld Town Road\u201d<\/a> followed by his latest release \u201cPanini.\u201d<\/p>\n Megan Thee Stallion opened the pre-show performing \u201cBig Ole Freak\u201d along with \u201cHot Girl Summer\u201d and \u201cMoney Shit.\u201d Rosal\u00eda performed her hit with Ozuna, \u201cYo x Ti, Tu x Me,\u201d<\/a> and \u201cAute Cuture.\u201d<\/p>\n Missy Elliott got the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and gave an epic performance, that incorporated her new tune \u201cThrow It Back.\u201d<\/p>\n Missy Elliott gave probably the most epic and exciting performance of the night. Literally, everyone in the crowds was up on their feet dancing as she took us on a mesmerising trip down memory lane. Her songs are classics and bring all cultures together through our love of her music.<\/p>\n Miley Cyrus<\/a> sang her new single \u201cSlide Away\u201d supported by a string segment. The legendary Lenny Kravitz introduced H.E.R.<\/span> who was amazing. Normani<\/a>, lit up the stage while performing her nostalgic \u201cMotivation.\u201d \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We were also blessed with performances from Big Sean<\/a> and A$AP Ferg who performed \u201cBezerk,\u201d<\/a> which they released a few hours before the show.
