Qymira Captivates The Indigo At The O2, London Supporting Boyzlife
Last Saturday, I attended the Boyzlife show at Indigo at The O2, London. Midway through their UK tour, I was excited to catch the vibrant duo, alongside a packed venue of huge, devoted fans. The opening act, Qymira, completely grabbed my attention – and left me eager to hear more.
Qymira, originally from Hong Kong, is a violinist, singer-songwriter and philanthropist all rolled into one. As I witnessed on Saturday, she is also an incredible performer with an enigmatic stage presence. Her set was short and fearless, hypnotizing us within moments.
Emerging from the wings, violin-in-hand, Qymira conveyed a bewitching glamour. Surrounded by backing dancers, it was evident that this was going to be one captivating performance. She began with ‘Violectra,’ an expressive homage to her classical roots. It was a glorious display of her multi-talented abilities – one I won’t be forgetting any time soon.
Unfortunately, the set faced issues when the track for ‘Melodrama’ refused to play, but Qymira didn’t let this stop her from continuing her electric performance. She broke into an acapella performance, which only contributed to the show’s theatrics – and ultimately saved the day.
The energy was back at an all-time high, preceded by the rhythmic ‘Give It To Me’ – we couldn’t help but dance – the towering hit ‘Wait For No One,’ and my personal favourite – ‘Labyrinth Of Life,’ which ended the set on a glorious high. ‘Labyrinth Of Life’ was bursting with dynamic vocals, explosive choreography and a fascinating, energetic soundscape, leaving the crowd amazed.
In short, the set was everything you’d want to see from an opener – unexpected, immersive, and deeply entertaining. I’m sure when Qymira next arrives in London, she’ll be on the headlining spot.
