Fireboy DML X Ed Sheeran – Peru
Nigerian star Fireboy DML hit song Peru has been hot for a few months now, and the fans were excited to hear about a possible collaboration with British music maverick and Grammy winner Ed Sheeran.
‘Peru’ initially dropped back in July and quickly became a hit in many countries. Fireboy has released two studio albums, ‘Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps’ and ‘Apollo’ in 2019 and 2020. At the age of 25, the R&B artist continues to drop melodic and captivating singles that will have everyone and the mothers singing along.
In Peru, Fireboy tells the story of a woman that captures his heart and soul then continues to grab his attention around the world as he travels from Jozi, Miami, to San Francisco. Ed Sheeran compliments the song with his effortless vocal, embodying the essence of the Fireboys’ original song.
“It has been a dream knowing Ed Sheeran is a fan of my sound and having him jump on a song that was inspired by me travelling the world. Not only is this an exciting moment for me, but also for Afrobeats.
I hope this is the first of many collaborations with Ed and other artists around the globe, and I can’t wait for everyone to enjoy this song during the holidays.” – Fireboy DML
Ed has continuously shared his excitement about the song.
As reported by RNN, Sheeran confirmed his collaboration with Fireboy in an interview with Elton John on the Rocket Hour, where he said he found ‘Peru’ “really intriguing”. “I recorded a verse for it… and it’s a song that’s blowing up in Nigeria and Ghana at the moment, and their club scene runs over Christmas,” he explained. “So you basically put a song to the club in the middle of December, which would seem a weird thing to do in England.”
Sheeran affirmed the upcoming track is “an earworm, and it’s addictive”, adding: “I’m obsessed with it. I mean, Cherry [Sheeran’s wife] will tell you, I’ve had this song on repeat constantly in the house for the last week.”
Peru’s success will go down in history, amassing over 75 million streams, and it is currently the second most-streamed song in Nigeria. The new single and video arrive perfectly in time, as in a few weeks, Fireboy embarks on his first-ever Apollo U.S. tour kicking off in February.
